License Renewal Cycle Time for Arizona

  • Arizona state licenses for DOs must be renewed every 2 years, on December 31st. 
  • The license renewal cycle and requirements are NOT the same for MDs and DOs.

Board Rule Checklist: State of Arizona (DOs)

  • Complete 40 hours of Board approved CME
    • Due date: Every 2 years on 12/31
  • Of the 40 hours of CME, complete at least 24 hours of AOA Category 1A activities
    • Due date: Every 2 years on 12/31
  • If this is your first time renewing your AZ license, you do not need to comply with the above rules, however you must complete the following in order to renew your license
    • Complete 20 hours of Board approved CME
      • Due date: On 12/31 of your next renewal cycle
    • Of the 20 hours of CME, complete at least 12 hours of AOA Category 1A activities
      • Due date: On 12/31 of your next renewal cycle 
  • If you are authorized to prescribe schedule II controlled substances and have a valid U.S. DEA registration, or you are authorized to dispense controlled substances: Complete a minimum of 3 hours of opioid-related, substance use disorder-related or addiction-related continuing education
    • Due date: Every 2 years on 12/31
