License Renewal Cycle Time for Illinois 

  • Illinois state licenses for NPs must be renewed every 2 years.

Board Rule Checklist: State of Illinois (NPs)

  •  Complete 80 hours of CE
    • Due date: Every 2 years at license expiration
  • Of the 80 hours of CE, complete a minimum of 20 hours of CE in pharmacotherapeutics 
    • Due date: Every 2 years at license expiration
  • Of the 80 hours of CE, complete 10 hours of CE in opioid prescribing or substance abuse education
    • Due date: Every 2 years at license expiration 
  • Of the 80 hours of CE, complete 1 hour of CE in sexual harassment prevention training 
    • Due date: Every 2 years at license expiration 
  • If you work with children in your professional or official capacity:
    • Complete mandated reporter of child abuse and neglect training 
      • Due date: Every 6 years 
      • This CE can count towards the 80 total hours of CE required
  • If you were initially licensed within the past two years: 
    • You do not have to comply with CE requirements
