License Renewal Cycle Time for Massachusetts

  • Massachusetts physician assistant state licenses must be renewed on March 1st, of every odd-numbered year. 
    • For example: If you renew your license on March 1st of 2021, your next renewal date would be March 1st of 2023.

Board Rule Checklist: State of Massachusetts (PAs)

  • Complete 100 hours of continuing education 
    • Of the 100 total continuing education hours, a minimum of 40 hours must be Category 1
    • Due date: March 1st of every odd-numbered year
  • Of the 100 total continuing education hours, complete 4 hours in pharmacology or pharmacokinetics 
    • Due date: March 1st of every odd-numbered year
  • Complete the domestic and sexual violence training 
    • Due date: Once, at first license renewal
  • Enroll in MassHealth 
    • Due date: Every 5 years
  • If you prescribe controlled substances: Complete prescriber training requirement continuing education (can be included in the 100 total hour requirement)
    • Due date: March 1st of every odd-numbered year
