License Renewal Cycle Time for North Carolina (NPs)

  • North Carolina nurse practitioner state licenses must be renewed every year, on the last date of the month following birth date. 
    • Example: If your birthdate is January 4th, and your last renewal was in 2021, then you must renew your license on January 31st of 2022. 

Board Rule Checklist: State of North Carolina(NPs)

  • Maintain RN license
    • Due date: Annually
  • Maintain certification as a nurse practitioner by a national credentialing body
    • Due date: Annually
  • Complete 50 contact hours of CE
    • Due date: Annually
  • Of the 50 contact hours of CE, complete 20 hours of CE approved by the ANCC or the ACCME 
    • Due date: Annually
