Mocingbird's research team has verified and validated the most up-to-date CME requirements with the Pennsylvania Department of State. Here is a quick summary of things you must know:

License Renewal Cycle Time for Pennsylvania

  • Physicians must renew their state licenses on 12/31, every even-numbered year.

Example:

Renew on 12/31, 2022, then next cycle will start and tasks will be due on 12/31, 2024

Board Rule Checklist: Pennsylvania Department of State (MDs & DOs): 

  • Complete 100 hours of CME 
    • Due date: On 12/31, every even-numbered year
  • Of the 100 hours, complete a minimum of 20 AMA PRA Category 1 credits
    • Due date: On 12/31, every even-numbered year
  • Of the 100 hours, complete at least 12 hours in activities related to patient safety or risk management (Category 1 or 2) 
    • Due date: On 12/31, every even-numbered year
  • Of the 100 hours, complete 2 hours of board-approved CME in child abuse recognition and reporting requirements 
    • Due date: On 12/31, every even-numbered year

Pennsylvania State Specific Requirements: 

There is one state specific requirement:

  1. If you prescribe and/or dispense opioids: Complete at least 2 hours of AMA PRA Category 1 or 2 CME in pain management, identification of addiction, or the practices of prescribing or dispensing of opioids. These credits will also count towards the 100 CME requirement for biennial renewal of license. This is due on 12/31, every even-numbered year.
