License Renewal Cycle Time for Texas (PAs)

  • Texas physician assistant state licenses must be renewed every 2 years.
  • Even numbered licenses renew in even numbered years, and odd license numbers renew in odd numbered years.

Board Rule Checklist: State of Texas (PAs)

  • Complete 40 hours of CME
    • Due date: Every 2 years at license renewal
  • Of the 40 total hours of CME, complete a minimum of 20 hours of Category 1 CME
    • Due date: Every 2 years at license renewal 
  • Of the 40 total hours of CME, complete one course in human trafficking prevention (this course must be approved by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission)
    • Due date: Every 2 years at license renewal 
  • Of the 40 total hours of CME, complete 2 hours of opioid-related CME
    • Due date: Every 2 years at license renewal 
  • Complete fingerprint background check
    • Due date: at license renewal
    • Note: If you were fingerprinted for your PA licensure application after 1/15/2018, you are not required to do so for subsequent renewals
